HK-450 CCPM 3D Bare Bone Helicopter Kit
Why Purchase : All in all I was looking for a small heli that I could build up using unused / old spares to have stress free flying fun with.
Role of the heli : A park flyer that I could carry around with me in my boot all over, would be quality enough to try new manoeuvres on first, yet cheap enough that I wouldn’t be left racking up huge bills compared to my other helis when one has the occasional 'enthusiastic landing', LOL.
Quality and Build : I must admit, that at this price I was somewhat sceptical. However, upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised at the package. 3/4 built with all other parts neatly bagged and packaged.
As for the build all went smoothly following the downloaded Trex 450 instructions. Heads up I would give in this area would be to be careful with the hex screws in the frame. Their heads seem to strip easily. I used HXT 9g servos and found that the stickers had to be removed and the actual rounded corners of the servo mounting holes in the frame filed a tiny bit to get the servos in. One last heads up would be to remove the feathering shaft screws/bolts and loctite them again, as well as the tail hub set/grub screw and tail blade grips screws that screw into the tail hub.
Setup & Flight : I set the heli up with a 3700Kv motor, +10 -10 collective and +8 -8 cyclic pitch. 12 tooth pinion gear, old JR gyro and 6ch JR DSMJ receiver, 40 AMP esc, glass fibre blades & HXT 9g servos, carbon fibre canopy purchased at Wi-Fly aswell.
After some tweaking I put her through her paces. Heli was very stable in a hover. Forward flight felt good with virtually no nose up tendency as many 450's suffer. Moving on, rolls, loops, back flips, static flips & rolls, sustained inverted flight, cuban 8's, pirouette stall turns etc. all felt good. I think I will be popping a 13 tooth pinion on soon as at times it feels like one could expect just a little bit more out of the head.
On that note another option is the purchase the alloy head and tail upgrade. I have and as soon as i get the time will pop them on.
Repairs : At this price what’s the point, and that’s the beauty of this kit. That’s what allows you to fly stress free. You plant it, you purchase an entire kit, transfer the electronics and take what’s left over for running spares. That easy.
Overview : If you want to build a decent, extremely cost effective fun machine to call your boot its hanger, this is the answer. I must be honest though, and admit that the extremely low price of this kit has inspired a bit of overconfidence once already that led to an 'enthusiastic landing' LOL!
