great servo
Hi I bought this servo as an affordable option for a tail servo on a nitro choppper but from a different source. the servo is great from packaging all the way to the horns.
Just one word of caution, even though it's digital, it can't handle the high resolution that a gyro kicks out in DS mode, so the servo will burn out in about 5 min when the gyro is in digital mode, leave the gyro in normal mode and the servo will perform great , I did try DS mode , and within 1 min the servo was mega hot by the heat sink.
but it's one excellent servo :-)

Was it worth it?
Was this servo worth the R250?
Yes, deffinately. I was pleasantly surprised when the servos arrived neatly packaged in a plastic box. Something only left to expensive servos.
Packaging, however, does not mean the servo is of good quality. So, unpack and test.
What struck me as really nice is the fact that the servo horns has a alu ring around the hole that fits onto the servo drive. This is normally done to horns from high-torque servos to prevent the horn from cracking. Strange as this is only a 6.4Kg servo, but who is comlaining about the added re-inforcing.
The servo itself has a section which is aluminium. It quickly became apparent why this is when I stuck the servo on the servo tester. When the servo at slow speed, it tended to get a bit warm around the aluminium section which means it is designed to be a heatsink to cool the electronics down, which is not a bad thing. Once the servo moves at full speed, it seemed to cool down a bit.
I also checked the holding capability and the centering. It held very nicely and centered 100% each time. I could not find any slop or oscillation when centering from extreme positions.
Fitment might be a bit of a problem, as i found in my HK600 chopper. The servo is slightly taller than normal servos, but it is fixable and after a bit of modification to the way I fit the servo, all was well.
One thing that bugged me was that I could not find one horn that fitted correctly at 90deg on the servo. So sub trimming will be neccessary. Also the servo horns was a bit thick for the ball link screws supplied with the HK600, but a bit of filing will do the trick and because the horn plastic is so thick, you won't weaken the horn by filing off a bit.
Else, I can recomment this servo for your heli (not on the rudder though because of heat) and plane no problem.
